Animated Time-Series

I recently was in contact with a site that specializes in baseball statistics (Bill James’s Organization) and the fellow with whom I was in contact suggested a take a look at a unique graphics presentation.  I did look and was amazed with what I saw.  You can see it here.

Dr. Rosling’s energy and enthusiasm certainly helps the presentation, but the visual displays are quite something.  Much of the data is presented as an animated time-series analysis.  The software used was developed by Dr. Rosling’s group the Gapminder Foundation which can found here.

They developed a software called Trendalyzer which has been bought by Google.  A news article describing the transaction is found on WebProNews.

I thought the presentation was very powerful.  Not unlike the control chart it shows a running record, but also adds the capability of showing various graphic techniques (distributions, bubble diagrams, etc.) as an animated series.
