Composite Reliability/Value 1980 - 2005

A number of persons in discussing the auto bailout and woes of Detroit have indicated that the gap between Japanese and American automakers is a perceptual one. In association with some research I have done, I produced the following graphic to show that the gap is very real and has been in existence for decades. The gap has narrowed, but it has not disappeared.
